Asana time tracking integration — log hours against Asana tasks

Connect Asana to SquadBear, search tasks from your timesheet, and log time against them. One-way and read-only — nothing is written back to Asana.

SquadBear connects to Asana so people can attach a real Asana task to a time entry, found through a search picker rather than typed from memory. Nothing is mirrored or synced — a task becomes a SquadBear task only when someone logs hours against it.

What the Asana integration does

It lets you log time against Asana tasks from your SquadBear timesheet. On My week, the Work items panel's Search tab uses Asana's typeahead as you type. Because Asana tasks have no key, results show just the task title — no key badge — and SquadBear logs against the task's stable id, so tasks are always picked from search. Picking one drops it onto the grid as a task and logs your hours; the first log creates a single task for it, and later logs reuse it so the running total accumulates.

How to connect Asana

An admin connects Asana in one or two short steps:

Go to Time Logging → Projects (admin only) and find the Asana integration card.
Click Connect and paste an Asana personal access token (from your Asana developer settings).
If the token can see more than one workspace, SquadBear asks which workspace to bind the connection to before it finishes. A token that sees exactly one workspace connects in a single step.
SquadBear verifies the token against Asana before saving and stores it encrypted.

To narrow a project to one Asana project, set that project's issue-tracker scope to the Asana project gid (the number from the project's URL). See Connect an issue tracker for details.

See tasks assigned to you

The Work items panel's Assigned tab lists Asana tasks assigned to you, once your Asana account (its user gid) is linked to your employee record. Linking is self-serve through a connected agent, or an admin can link it for you.

What stays in sync

Only a task's cached title comes from Asana, refreshed the next time someone logs against it. Nothing flows back — no time, status or assignee is written to Asana. Disconnecting hides the pickers and Assigned tab; hours already logged stay on the timesheet exactly as logged.
