What you can do in Claude
Book and check leave, log time, run a health check, manage records, start a joiner process after you have hired someone, chase a handbook signature, and draft a review you were asked to write. Claude runs the calculation against your real data. It does not guess. On a review it may suggest wording and a rating. You pick every rating and submit in SquadBear. Peer answers reach it as Peer 1, Peer 2, with no name. It cannot read upward feedback, and SquadBear runs no model on the review.
What it does not do: emotion or mood inference, candidate screening, ranking people for hire / fire / promote, or automatic people decisions off a score. Claude is the assistant. SquadBear is the system of record and the permission boundary.
Ask it to call get_context first. It should come back with your identity, workspace, timezone and connection permissions. Proof it resolved to you before you hand it anything real. get_capabilities explains what this session cannot do, and which scopes are missing.
How to connect Claude
- Your MCP endpoint is
https://app.squadbear.com/mcp. The in-app AI agents page shows the same URL for the origin you opened. - In claude.ai or the Claude desktop app, open Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector, or use Add to Claude on the MCP page. A free Claude account can add one custom connector. Name it SquadBear and keep the endpoint.
- Claude opens the SquadBear sign-in. Log in, then choose which scopes the connection may use. Everyday work covers leave, approvals, directory, time, attendance, assigned tasks, and the reviews you are asked to write while Performance is on. Specialist presets (HR administration, reports, processes, documents, facilitation) live on the same URL - pick them on the authorization screen.
- In any chat, enable SquadBear under the search and tools menu, and start asking.

Permissions, scopes and the audit trail
The agent acts as you, with your role's permissions, nothing more. The scopes you approve are frozen into that connection. Everyday writes follow Claude's Ask setting. Changing leave policies or entitlements, workspace settings or a person's role, inviting an admin, starting a process or erasing a person prepares a 30-minute proposal on AI agents; Claude's token cannot approve it. A token minted for /mcp is rejected on /mcp/chatgpt, and the reverse. Same permissions and audit trail either way.

Yes. Claude can operate SquadBear at https://app.squadbear.com/mcp, under your login and your role. A free Claude account can add one custom connector.
Do I need a paid Claude plan?
No. A free Claude account can add one custom connector. Paid Claude plans can add more. SquadBear itself is free for up to 5 people, and the assistant works on every SquadBear plan, including the free one.
Can Claude do things I'm not allowed to do?
No. A connected agent acts as you, with exactly your role's permissions. An employee's Claude cannot approve anyone's leave; a manager's can approve their reports. Every action lands in the same audit trail as the web app.
What can I actually ask it to do?
The everyday work: check or book leave, log time, see who's covering, set up a record after you've hired someone, chase a policy sign-off, run a report. Not hire, fire or promote decisions, and not emotion detection.
Does Claude decide employment outcomes?
No. It drafts, fetches and files under your permissions. It does not screen candidates, score people for promotion or termination, or infer how someone feels. Humans stay in command of people decisions.
Is this the same URL ChatGPT uses?
No. Claude uses https://app.squadbear.com/mcp. ChatGPT uses https://app.squadbear.com/mcp/chatgpt, a curated subset. A token minted for one is rejected on the other.
How do I add a scope I forgot to grant?
Scopes are frozen into a connection when you approve it. Reauthorize the same connection with the extra scopes and refresh the tool list. Some clients call this reconnecting. The URL stays the same.
